The Clearest Pics Of Zachary Levi As Shazam, Yet (Ooh Boy)

We’ve seen glimpses and a tiny clip in the last couple of days, and now today, we get some full pictures of Zachary Levi in full Shazam regalia. Below, I’ll break down the four pictures that were released today across the internet.

Pic 1, above: I had 2 issues with the casting of Zachary Levi and neither of them have to do with his acting ability. Shazam has always been a massive looking character. He’s a combination of the powers of multiple gods and should always have the look to back it. Levi is tall, but has always been kind of lanky. We already knew putting on weight was probably going to be an issue, and here it shows. That is definitely NOT all Zach Levi filling out that costume. The space between his chest and where the Shazam outift come together is vast, denoting there is plenty of room. My other Levi issue was with the shape of his head. It sounds weird, but Shazam is kind of a thick, block-headed character and Levi is kind of…long of face. It’s not the biggest deal, but in comparison to someone like John Cena, who’s head shape resembles the comic book versions a little closer, it’s disconnecting. On the plus side, there is some scaling on the red and some Superman-like, useless raised lines, which may look better on film.

Pic 2, above: Here we see another example of my issues from Pic 1. The space between body and outfit makes it look like he’s wearing a very padded costume, and again, the long-headedness (editors note: ha ha ha) of Levi makes this look like a deleted dream sequence from Chuck.

Pic 3, above: I want to say something positive here – as a representation of a comic book outfit, this is honestly about as good as it gets. From the neck down, this IS Shazam. The cape is the perfect length. Nothing is overdone. I’m interested in seeing how the yellow in the chest insignia looks on camera with the more worn gold of the rest of the trimming, bracelets, boots, etc. I’m guessing it’s set for post filming CGI work. They just look like starkly different colors, and I’m color-blind. On the unfortunate side, it almost looks like they built a muscle shell, wrapped it in the costume, then fastened Levi inside of it. Like if you opened it up, a tiny little Zach Levi would jump out.

Pic 4, above: Shazams, they’re just like us! Honestly, I’m pretty sure they stopped padding the costume at the forearms. Who has biceps that big with forearms that small? Look, he wears a bright red and gold outfit and has never even wore the old school, alt-colored briefs to break up the red, so this was going to be a little gaudy, no matter what. The Superman movies have muted the blue in that characters unitard, and all I’m saying is that this looks like less of that. Is that a good thing? Does it matter? I don’t know. I like the look of the actual suit, my problem is still with the guy inside of it. Let’s hope everything else works. Tell us what you think!

A Head-On Picture Of Zachary Levi As Shazam Has Surfaced

(you didn’t think we’d just show the pic up top, did ya?)

Recently we dropped a slight rear 3/4 view of Zachary Levi in the full Shazam costume and today we get a little bit of a look from the front. It’s still extremely difficult to tell how much of the suit is padding and how much of the suit is actual Levi muscle, which is concerning.

One of the somewhat defining characteristics of the other characters who’ve made it on screen in recent DC offerings, has been a healthy dose of contouring definition, worked into the design of the suit. From what we can see so far, that is not the case with the Shazam costume. It is spot on, though, as far as the look of it. I’d also assume there are a number of versions that have been made, and this may be some lesser mock-up, but as discussed on our latest podcast (available for free on the podcast tab on this site,) Fox tried to ease everyone’s fears when the first pics of Apocalypse surfaced and look how that turned out. What do you think? Hit us up and let us know, and in the meantime, make sure to catch our latest on episode 76 of the podcast!

We Got A First Look At Zachary Levi As Shazam

We had been wondering what would Zachary Levi look like when he finally dons the costume of the child-like superhero and now we seem to have our first peek.

In what looks to be a set photo while filming SHAZAM! we see him in the iconic red suit and lets be honest from what we can see it doesnt look that bad but it does look padded. Let us know what you think.

Shazam Has A Release Date

The very intriguing upcoming DC film, Shazam, starring Zach Levi of Chuck fame, looks like it’s found it’s launching pad.

As previously mentioned on the site, David Sandberg will be directing, and now we have confirmed that the movie’s April 5, 2019 release date will be nestled nicely right between Marvel’s Captain Marvel which comes out in March, and Avengers 4, which drops in May.

For DC’s sake, they will hopefully ride both a successful Aquaman at the end of 2018 and a well-performing Captain Marvel to continued interest in heroes called that at some point, that gets them a lot of ticket sales. Tell us how you think it will do!

We now have our Billy Batson to go along with SHAZAM

WE Day California, Arrivals, Los Angeles, USA - 27 Apr 2017

Well the question of who will be the kid side of the Childlike superhero SHAZAM has been answered.

Asher Angel has been cast as Billy Batson opposite Zachary Levi in New Line’s DC superhero film “Shazam!,” as the story broke from Variety.

SHAZAM! follows a boy (Angel) who can transform into an adult superhero by uttering the magic word “Shazam!” in case you were what wondering what SHAZAM stands for. It is an acronym of the ancient gods and historical figures Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles, and Mercury, .

Mark Strong is in talks for the role of the villain, & Grace Fulton is set to play one of Angel’s friends.

David F. Sandberg of “Lights Out” is directing, with a screenplay by Henry Gayden and Darren Lemke. “Annabelle: Creation’s” Peter Safran will produce.

In case you’re wondering where does this next superhero fall on the film production slate. “Shazam!” will be the next DC Cinematic Universe movie to begin shooting, before  “Flashpoint,” (which still.doesnt habe a director) the Joss Whedon-directed “Batgirl,” and the “Suicide Squad” sequel, which Gavin O’Connor just came aboard to helm. There is also going to be standalone film about Black Adam, Shazam’s arch nemesis. Dwayne Johnson is attached to play Black Adam in that pic. But as of now is not set to be in the shale film only his own solo Black Adam project.

“Sinestro” may end up in SHAZAM

Maybe not the villain Sinestro directly but the man who portrayed him may be facing DC’s latest hero to join the film world.

In an EXCLUSIVE from The Wrap

Mark Strong is in talks to play DC Comics villain Doctor Sivana in New Line’s “Shazam,” TheWrap has exclusively learned.

Strong is no stranger to DC as the actor has previously play villain Sinestro in 2011’s “Green Lantern” opposite then Green Lantern Ryan Reynolds.

Known as Shazam’s archenemy and most frequent foe, in 2009, Doctor Sivana was ranked as IGN’s 82nd Greatest Comic Book Villain of All Time. In the most recent run of DC Comics the New 52 that “Shazam,” is loosely based on,  Sivana is depicted as a respected scientistdesperate to save his family from an unknown plight. With science having failed him, he turns to magic. Doctor Sivana’s team finds what he believes to be the tomb of Black Adam; while attempting to open it, the scientist is half-blinded by magical lightning to the face (which has the side-effect of letting him see magic).

David Sandberg, the horror filmmaker behind “Lights Out” and “Annabelle: Creation,” will direct the film. Filming will begin in February 2018 for a likely 2019 release.

Zachary Levi joined the cast last week and will play “Shazam.”

Strong, who won an Oliver for “A View From the Bridge” and was last seen in “Kingsman: The Golden Circle,” next up has eight-part espionage thriller “Deep State,” for Fox Networks Group. Strong stars as Max Easton, a retired Secret Service operative and member of elite British/America team called The Section, coaxed back into the field to try to shut down an Iranian missile program.

Could we potentially see Dwayne Johnson’s “Black Adam” make an appearance of any other heroes of the DCEU?

Prepare All The Steroids – Zachary Levi Is Playing Shazam

In what may be the start of a series of bad ideas, Warner Brothers has tapped Zachary Levi, best known from his run on NBC’s Chuck, to be Shazam. Not a lot of details have been released so far, but Levi is going to need to put on a little weight to play the hero who is a combination of 6 great gods (Solomon, Hercules, Achilles, Zeus, Atlas and Mercury.)

The movie is directed by David Sandberg (Annabelle: Creation) and will come in 2019, giving Levi plenty of time to add a few pounds.
