We already knew the sequel to Deadpool was going to be stuffed with a lot more characters. Who everyone was playing was still up in the air, until the recent trailer dropped.
We get a little of everyone in this, and the major questions are answered. Terry Crews was rumored to be a number of different black characters, which I’m not sure is a greater disservice to Crews, the DP2 costumers or the other black characters he was rumored to be. It’s apparent from this trailer that he is going to be playing Bedlam, who made his original appearance in the Age Of Apocalypse story line (one of my favorites,) and then popped up again as an experimented on teenager, saved by a mutant reclamation project started by Charles Xavier called M.U.S.E. (Mutant Underground Support Engine,) in the Marvel Universe.
His powers are pretty wild, as he is always emitting pulse energy, and can detect both brain waves and electrical energy, with the ability to manipulate both someone’s consciousness or their machinery, armor, etc.
At the 1:36 mark in the trailer, Crews picture as Bedlam is the first, followed by Rob Delaney’s with the name Peter. Since Delaney is not playing Colossus, that leaves Pete Wisdom as the likely choice, especially considering the dapper suit he’s wearing. Wisdom was a British secret service agent in the comics, and could throw energy blades from his fingers. It’s a character that could easily be turned into a snarky American that would fit Delaney, all respect due! Wisdom actually had a mini-series with Kitty Pryde at one point, which tempts questions as to what he may link to, considering a solo Pryde film is in the works as well.
People are actually questioning whether Shiori Kutsuna is playing Surge or Psylocke, and I think recasting Psylocke is a little to quick, and since we’ve go Bedlam and Pete Wisdom, along with Bill Skarsgard playing either Zeitgeist or Rictor, which are both out there, Surge seems about right. Deadpool drops in a little under 2 months on May 18th! Does the trailer or any of this information influence your excitement? Let us know what you think!
Ever since it’s been announced, there’s been a lot of speculation around what a YA series based around the classic Marvel characters, Cloak & Dagger, would look like. Especially on Freeform, the first superhero series to land there. There have been a few clips and teasers, but today we got the full introductory trailer as to who these kids are, and where we find them at the start of this show.
With DC somewhat dominating this age demo of the genre with it’s CW shows, this trailer positions Cloak & Dagger to be a solid second shot, after Runaways very successful run on Hulu. It also demonstrates Disney’s ability to spread Marvel’s content across several platforms, as Agents Of Shield is currently in season 5 on ABC, and Netflix carries several New York City based heroes, in Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and The Punisher.
This version of Cloak & Dagger takes place in Louisiana and will obviously play heavily on both race and class, through an interracial relationship with a couple who are from different ends of the economic spectrum, and I for one, am all for it. What are your thoughts? Let us know!
Annabella Sciorra, who has appeared in so many memorable roles over the years, will be taking her turn in the Marvel universe, landing in the role of Rosalie Carbone in the new season of Luke Cage. Sciorra has had an incredible film and TV career, with roles in movies like Hand That Rocks The Cradle, Jungle Fever, and What Dreams May Come, and shows like Sopranos, and Law & Order: Criminal Intent.
The character of Carbone is an odd choice for Luke Cage and may hint at a larger connection to the Punisher, the hero most closely tied to her in the comics. While we wouldn’t be opposed to something tying in Cage to Punisher, so far, Netflix hasn’t announced the inclusion of any other heroes besides the Iron Fist. Cage’s sophomore season premieres on June 22nd, which is all-of-a sudden, not that far away!

It’s been a solid day for news on the women in the Marvel Universes. Earlier today we shared news on the writing/directing team that is apparently taking on the Kitty Pryde solo film for Fox, and now we have information on the writers for Sony’s Silver & Black tag-team ladies team-up.
Lindsey Beer and Geneva Robertson-Dworet are going to be penning the script for the two femme fatales. Beer is relatively unknown up to now, but has an enormous slate of announced credits coming up, with M.A.S.K., Godzilla Vs Kong, Barbie and Dungeons & Dragons all on her slate. Robertson-Dworet most notably penned the script for the currently-in-production, Captain Marvel, and is also on the writing team for M.A.S.K. and Dungeons & Dragons, as well as Sherlock 3 and Tomb Raider. Gina Prince-Bythewood, who is best known from Love and Basketball and The Secret Life of Bees is going to direct, and she also wrote the first draft of the script.
No casting has been set as of yet, but based on the excitement surrounding the other projects these women are working on, hopefully this gets a worthwhile take. Does news of this writing team get you excited? Is this a movie that should even be happening? Does it tie into the rest of the MCU like Venom should? Let us know what you think!
Despite being in the midst of being sold or bought or in purchase limbo for the next couple of years, Fox still has work to do in regards to producing films and television, and it appears they’re definitely going to keep making moves. The studio that runs the mutant universes for Marvel has announced the hiring of Brian Michael Bendis to write the script for a new movie that has the mysterious placeholder title of “143,” that Tim Miller is slated to direct.
If you are somehow unfamiliar with Bendis, he is the creator of Jessica Jones, which is getting close to it’s second season premiering on Netflix, as well as a number of other characters (Miles Morales/Ultimate Spider-Man) and comic series’. Miller has gotten his best exposure from directing the original Deadpool movie, and is currently working on the next Terminator film.
So what is “143?” Well, aside from being the old pager code for “I love you,” 143 likely refers to Uncanny X-Men #143 (cover pictured below,) one of the earliest stories starring Kitty Pryde, who we’ve known is getting her own movie for a little while now. For now, we’ll assume that Ellen Page isn’t coming back to play the titular character, although we’d love that. Who do you think should fill her shoes? Give us your thoughts on that and this movie!
It is amazing that in this day and age, with all the ability to figure out what’s happening before it’s happened, we are at somewhat of a loss here. There are two prevailing rumors on who we are looking at in the above screenshot, but the real confusion is created in figuring out just who we’re looking at: one being that this is X-Force. An X-Force movie is in production, and these characters could fit into that schema. However, this could also be Six Pack. Just who are the other characters in this that aren’t Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool) and Zazie Beetz (Domino.)
That is 100% Terry Crews and it’s been confirmed he’s in this movie. Original reports had him as Anarchist, but he could be anyone from Bedlam, to G.W. Bridge (I hope note – I need Bridge to have the trademark full white mane,) to Garrison Kane to Hammer. By the look of the face, which looks like some kind of goggles, I’d say it’s Anarchist, but if they put the giant X on the side of his head, Bedlam would be cool, too.
The character between Domino and Deadpool in the picture appears to be Zeitgeist, again due to the yellow masking around the mouth, but others have speculated it could be a somewhat gender-fluid Feral, who is expected to at least cameo. Rumors are that Bill Skarsgård is in the movie, and this looks like it could be him. I’m hoping for Zeitgeist.
Finally, this is definitely Shatterstar. Stefan Kapičić, who plays Colossus, admitted as much in an interview with the Inverse Entertainment website. Ryan Reynolds kind of demanded him for this film, so this is cool to see, but not a giant surprise.
We’re still waiting on seeing Sunspot, who we also expect to see in this film as well. Last movie, they couldn’t afford to have all the guns they wanted and had to make 3 characters into one. This time, they’ve got heroes we haven’t seen in the first two trailers. Is it over-stuffed? Tell us what you think!
