Television Upfronts Bring Big Changes To Arrowverse, Patience For Agents Of Shield

With this year’s television upfronts having just concluded, we are now getting info on where and when we’ll see the return of some of our favorites from both DC and Marvel, and boy are there some surprises.

As you may know if you’re following us on the podcast (here,) the fates of the CW shows weren’t determined until about a month ago. Despite a lot of people questioning whether Supergirl, Flash or even Arrow should return, all are back, possibly aided by the fact that the network is expanding to a sixth night of programming (Sunday.)

While Flash’s fifth season will continue to be the lead-in to the very strong and entertaining, Black Lightning, remaining in the Tuesday night spot it’s held since it’s inception, Supergirl will move from the Monday night spot it had for it’s first three seasons (one on CBS, two on CW,) to Sunday’s at 8pm, 7 CST. Legends Of Tomorrow will now be locked in the Monday 8pm/7 CST slot it thrived in this year, and it will now be followed by Arrow! Oliver and crew had a very strong comeback season, really a second in a row, after everyone freaked out over too much magic being involved in season 4. Supergirl, Legends, Arrow, Flash and closing with Black Lightning makes for a much stronger lineup and wraps everything up by Tuesday night each week.

Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. has been given a 13-episode 6th season, which almost no one would’ve guessed, after last year’s story about Disney needing to “strongly urge” ABC to bring the show back. To no surprise of the actual fans of the show, we were treated to another fabulous season, which tied up so many loose ends and has us eager for another. The twist is when we will actually get to see them. As you may know if you’re watching, they explicitly connected Thanos attacking Earth in Infinity War, to the show. The concern many had upon the announcement of the 6th season, was that we’d see AoS come back before the issues stemming from Thanos snapping his fingers, had played out. The good news is, that won’t be a problem. The bad news, is the reason why. We won’t get the premiere of season 6 until the summer of 2019, meaning after the events of Avengers 4 play out. As a fan, this is bittersweet. Happy for another season, sad you have to wait.

I think the positives outweigh the negatives all the way around here. What about you? Let us know what you think!

Marvel Hires Writers For “Eternals,” So You Know They’re Serious

If you caught our latest podcast (here,) you will have heard about Marvel’s plans to move away from it’s earthly heroes for an otherworldly, highly super-powered Eternals movie. Many are somewhat unfamiliar with the Eternals, and in in keeping with that, Marvel has hired an unfamiliar writing duo as well.

Matthew and Ryan Firpo have been given the go-ahead to take the first crack at turning out a viable script. To date, the brothers are largely unknown, with their main claim to fame being a script for a movie called “Ruin,” which made the Black List and has attracted the attention of Gal Gadot and MadRiver Productions.

As we all know, those who start on a Marvel script may not be the ones who end up with the credit for it by the time the film arrives, and creating an entirely alien world where everyone seemingly has powers is no easy undertaking. We will know whether they’ve got the goods, soon enough. What are your thoughts on Marvel bringing in untested talent for their next step? Let us know!

Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. Gets A Sixth Season!

After rumors surfaced that Disney “compelled” ABC to give Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. this, their 5th season, we were all pretty sure it would be the original MCU tie-in show’s last. All year long, people involved in the show kept saying they wrote this season as if it would be the last. Expectations were minimum. Thank goodness the fans showed up.

Announced just a minutes ago, AoS will be returning for a 6th season! Next year will bring back Coulson (we hope) and his crew for another 13 episodes. Thirteen is a far cry from the massive 24 episode run they had just a season ago, but at this point, we’ll take what we can get. Will we get more tie-ins to the half-genocided larger MCU? Will events of Avengers 4 play a role? Contact us and share your thoughts! Also, don’t forget to tune into the podcast we’ll be releasing later today to discuss it – we may bring up your question or opinion!

The New Luke Cage Trailer Is Straight Bananas

The freshman season of Luke Cage had way more ups than downs, and despite losing one of the better villains of the Netflix/Marvel series’ it was an overall success. Season 2 is coming on June 22 and it looks like it is absolutely no joke! Bushmaster looks like the big bad we’ve wanted to see take on Luke and the series also returns some of our favorites from season 1. Don’t miss the “sidekick” banter towards the end.

What do you think of the trailer and what are your hopes for season 2? Let us know!

Jessica Jones Gets A Third Season On Netflix

When it comes to it’s Marvel series’, Netflix tends to keep the lid on season renewals pretty tight and not always immediate. If you’re a fan of Jessica Jones, get excited, as the series is returning for another run, the third in the series. This is empowering news, as many people felt the show’s second season was not as good as it’s first. While you may get an agreement from me, I’d also say that after the groundbreaking, powerful first season Krysten Ritter and crew dropped on everyone, a sophomore jinx wasn’t the most shocking. However, the potential for a rebound in season 3 is pretty high, considering the way this year’s came to a close.

Ritter will of course be back as the titular character, and it’d be wise to expect Rachael Taylor, Eka Darville, and Carrie-Anne Moss to return as well. Along with them, Melissa Rosenberg has been retained as the showrunner, so if there is a method to the path she sent our characters on in season 2, we’ll hopefully seen it more fleshed out in the season to come.

Are you excited about another season for Jessica Jones? Hit us up and let us know!
