With the way everything else is happening in the DCEU this clearly seemed like the next step right? Well nonetheless The Joker from Suicide Squad will be getting his own film.
Warner Bros is looking to make a standalone of this version of the character that debuted in the 2016 Suicide Squad film. This film is set to have Jared Leto who portrayed the role to star and exec produce an untitled standalone film. This is set to pave the way for more future movies branching from off from Suicide Squad.
There currently is not a plot or any details for the film but the belief is that Warner Bros wants to further expand on the “Suicide Squad” world with the different properties that lie within. It has already been announced that Margot Robbie’who portrayed Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad is getting her own film with Birds of Prey.
Now this adds on to the “Joker” film catalog. As an origin film is on the way from Todd Phillips. Now this film is not set to be included within the current DCEU and the reason is to allow multiple actors as well as versions of characters to exist without any overlap. In that version Joaquin Phoenix has been tapped to play the clown prince of crime.
Let us know your thoughts on this. Are you excited? Are you looking forward to seeing a more expanded version than what we saw in the Suicide Squad film?
After a search that even included the “kind of” controversial Mel Gibson, the sequel to the *ahem* Academy Award winning, Suicide Squad has found it’s writer and likely director. Variety reports that Gavin O’Connor has been tabbed to helm the film.
Originally expected to begin sooner, shooting should begin in the second half of 2018, thanks to a very busy Will Smith, who has both Aladdin and Gemini to film, before he can climb back into his role as Deadshot, one of the only bright spots from the original.
If you are unfamiliar with O’Connor, you may recognize his work as the director of the very good Ben Affleck vehicle, The Accountant, the sequel to which, O’Connor will direct before he lenses the second Squad movie. Will his getting the job entice Affleck, whom he obviously seemed to work well with, to make another appearance against the team of bad guys drawn together to fight a bigger evil? We’ll have to discuss that on the next podcast!
