Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. Gets A Sixth Season!

After rumors surfaced that Disney “compelled” ABC to give Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. this, their 5th season, we were all pretty sure it would be the original MCU tie-in show’s last. All year long, people involved in the show kept saying they wrote this season as if it would be the last. Expectations were minimum. Thank goodness the fans showed up.

Announced just a minutes ago, AoS will be returning for a 6th season! Next year will bring back Coulson (we hope) and his crew for another 13 episodes. Thirteen is a far cry from the massive 24 episode run they had just a season ago, but at this point, we’ll take what we can get. Will we get more tie-ins to the half-genocided larger MCU? Will events of Avengers 4 play a role? Contact us and share your thoughts! Also, don’t forget to tune into the podcast we’ll be releasing later today to discuss it – we may bring up your question or opinion!

On Gotham, Neither Jerome, Nor Jeremiah Will Be The Joker

One thing that Gotham has had going for it from the beginning is a willingness to deviate from canon. We’ve seen new takes on the Falcone family, Lee Tompkins, Penguin, Riddler, and pretty much every other character in Batman’s world. The potential depiction of his most famous adversary, the Joker, was always a question and according to recent reports, that will continue. Cameron Monaghan, who has played both Jerome and Jeremiah Valeska (twins who have each taken on personas very similar to the Clown Prince Of Crime,) as well as producer John Stephens, have both confirmed that not only will neither Valeska brother become the Joker, Gotham isn’t even allowed to use the ‘J’ word or green hair on the show.

Monaghan posted this yesterday

John Stephens added this in response to questions about who Jerome (yeah, he’s dead, but when has that ever mattered on this show?) or Jeremiah might become:

“The other characters are who they are. Mad Hatter, Scarecrow, etcetera. But no, he isn’t the Joker. What we’ve always gone with is that Joker is somewhere out there, anonymous and unformed, in Gotham, and he’s watching the actions of Jeremiah and Jerome and possibly even another one, on his way somewhere down the line, and he’s adopting them as inspirations as the person he’ll one day become.”

There are a few ways to feel about this. If you’re in the camp that believes that the Joker’s hidden origin is sacred and the character is best when we don’t know what made him, this should be good news. There’s someone out there, taking notes on the actions of these Joker prototypes, but we’ll never find what creates them. The idea that he isn’t entirely original is a downer, but the origin story is saved. If you’re in the camp that wanted to see how the Joker came to be, you’re probably pissed at missing at least this show’s version of it.

Overall, it seems like a cheap move from the show. The Joker has long been one of the best villains of all time, in any medium. If the producers always knew they’d never get to use the full character, this is a premeditated ruse to string viewers along. If they didn’t, then they dove into starting down this road, and then continued down it once they found out they were limited in their options. Season four concludes next week and we haven’t gotten word of a renewal for a fifth, so hey, it may never matter and we can tell ourselves that Jeremiah becomes Joker. At this point, that may be best for everyone.

The New Luke Cage Trailer Is Straight Bananas

The freshman season of Luke Cage had way more ups than downs, and despite losing one of the better villains of the Netflix/Marvel series’ it was an overall success. Season 2 is coming on June 22 and it looks like it is absolutely no joke! Bushmaster looks like the big bad we’ve wanted to see take on Luke and the series also returns some of our favorites from season 1. Don’t miss the “sidekick” banter towards the end.

What do you think of the trailer and what are your hopes for season 2? Let us know!

Sony’s Venom – The Official Trailer

Here is the trailer to the new Venom movie, which is apparently scheduled to appear at CinemaCon, and let me tell you it does not disappoint. We loaded the original leaked version, but by the time it was out, the full version launched, and what looked like certain disaster at the start may actually prove to be Sony’s best offering in the Spidey-verse in quite some time.

The trailer gives us a lot of background as to who Eddie Brock is and how he ends up in possession of Venom. We also get a lot of Jenny Slate, who works at the Life Foundation, the company in possession of the symbiotes.

One of the more interesting parts of this trailer was Hardy’s Brock character seeking to make a deal with the symbiote to only do good things, that the symbiote summarily dismissed. It’s interesting because there are a number of different comic story lines being fed into this film, and where Brock or the Venom character go is up in the air. One thing for sure, he won’t be the only symbiote running around.

As we’ve covered before, this new Venom is expected to have some connection to the MCU, as Tom Holland is rumored to have filmed 2 days on the Sony set, and it is well-believed that since Sony “shared” Spider-Man back with Disney, that there is a continued interweaving of characters that will happen.  Venom comes out on October 5th. Does this trailer get you more excited? Let us know!
