We knew that changes were necessary if the world of DC live-action films were going to get better, but this was not the move we expected, as DC Entertainment President, CCO and all-around core of the DC universe, Geoff Johns is dropping the roles from his title and focusing on writing and producing for DC Comics and the studio.
The first thing on Johns plate in his restructured role? The long-talked about Green Lantern Corps film. Ryan Reynolds played the last film incarnation of Hal Jordan, and the new movie is expected to expand the story of the intergalactic space police to a number of well-known characters.
As those very interested in DC business may now, fellow DC Entertainment president Diane Nelson left the organization after 22 years. Nothing has been said as to whether these moves are connected at all, but considering Johns is still staying on to write and produce, which is really where he shines, we’d say no, for now.
Jim Lee will slide over to take on Johns’ responsibilities, and Thomas Gewecke will take Nelson’s place, presiding over Lee, Dan DiDio and Amit Desai. We’d like to believe these are signs of DC making real moves designed for progress, but we fear that they may be reactionary. Only time will tell. What are your thoughts? Let us know!
