Filed away under “Dreams I Didn’t Even Know I Wanted To Come True,” comes this amazing gem from the DC Extended Universe today. Not only are they going to do a hard-boiled Joker origin story. Not only are Todd Phillips of Hangover fame and Scott Silver of 8 Mile going to write the film. Not only is Phillips going to direct it, but he and none other than Martin Scorcese are going to produce it.
If you asked us to pick a team to tell the story of how Batman’s greatest enemy came to be, while we may not have jumped on Phillips and Silver, they are strong choices. We would’ve definitely suggested Scorcese pretty quickly, but that was pure big-dreaming. Not any more. The movie will not be using Leto’s Joker and will likely be a classic, ’80’s era Scorcese-styled crime film
Deadline reports that Warner Bros. is doing this through spinning off a new, as yet unnamed, umbrella from under which this film will come from. We would assume this is the same umbrella that will likely give us Justice League Dark and some of the other alternate/off-the-main DC universe ideas that Warner Bros. has in store. No release date or timetable of any sort has been given, although it was reported that Phillips is already working on a script. We look forward to see what comes of this.
